Learn Boutis: Step by Step

Learn Basic Boutis

Whether you are completely new to boutis, or whether you have already been introduced to this classic, traditional technique, if you enjoy hand quilting or embroidery, learning boutis will be a natural extension for you. Comfortable in both the worlds of embroidery and quilting, boutis has distinctive qualities that makes it unique in the rich world of needle arts.

After many years of practical experience working with the technique and experimenting with the design, I am very happy to share my passion for boutis with other hand-work enthusiasts with two introductory beginner kits.

“Le Cigale NeedleBook” and “Rosette de Ville” are both kits that will introduce you to this elegant, traditional French hand stitching technique and teach you the basics of boutis.

A 22 page detailed manual with step by step instructions and photos, will walk you through the process from the start to the finish and help you create your own little piece of classic elegance.

The design is clearly printed on a white cotton batiste with a wash away ink. ( www.alveocrea.com )

Both kits are available in two colourways; white with white or Provencal yellow with white.

Aside from a complete instruction manual, the kit includes the design, pre-printed onto a superior quality white cotton batiste with wash-away ink, as well as all of the boutis specific materials required for the project.

Other supplies included in the kit are: a second piece of cotton batiste for the reverse side of the project, cotton cording yarn specially intended for boutis, 40 weight hand quilting thread, and the 3 different types of needles required for boutis.

The remainder of the materials required are the basic sewing essentials found in most needleworkers’ sewing supplies.

For those who may already have the necessary materials, both kits will also be available for download on PDF.

If you have any questions or comments, I’m always happy to hear from you and engage in a conversation about boutis.
