Boutis: The Basics of Construction
A Heart for all Seasons
Not just for Valentine’s Day, “Hearts for all Seasons”, are quite adaptable for many occasions and seasons. Consider hanging a string of them in a window as an eye catching window ornament, attach one to a bridal bouquet, or attach it to a card as a thoughtful thank you to a friend or neighbour. It’s a fun, quick project, easily portable that will make waiting for appointments a lot less stressful.
Made using a combination of boutis, embroidery and even a little beading, the hearts are a fun, quick project that all hand stitchers will enjoy.
Over the next few months, I will be posting a series of tutorials that will describe the various stages of boutis, from materials and preliminary preparation through to the finishing your boutis.
As we wander through each step and technique it will equip you with the basics needed to successfully complete the project.
For my demo project, I will be using the “Boutis Hearts Pattern 1” (above). The techniques learned through this tutorial can be applied to other boutis projects as well.
If you wish to follow along with the tutorial, a complete supply list is currently available on this website. At the top of the page, go to “Learn How” and to the drop down menu. Click on “Materials”, which will take you to first tutorial.
The tutorials will be posted here on my website, seamsfrench.org, at regular intervals to allow time to work on each stage. To be notified of the latest post, you might wish to sign up for my *newsletter, (see the bottom of this page), which will then direct the latest tutorial to your email.
A PDF of the heart pattern will be available for free download with the first stage of construction: “General Info and Preparation”.
I look forward to the journey and hope to meet some of you along the way.
